Story
Hari’s Curry House was founded by Hari and Poonam in Walkley Heights, Adelaide, during 2015 on the 3rd of June
The two would gain experience and honed their culinary skillset in India during their youth, and establish a successful restaurant business in Adelaide, South Australia. This is their story.
Harimohan was born in Chandigarh, India, during 1974. From a young age, Hari had a strong passion for cooking. Throughout his youth, he would develop this pastime as he volunteered to cook for foundations. Those who were cooked for by Hari had praised his cooking-abilities and suggested he open his own restaurant to share his gift with others. Hari’s interest was soon to be a dream come true when he and his wife, Poonam, migrated to Australia during 2011.
Poonam was also born and raised in India, Delhi, a region renowned for it’s high-class food (was this a sign of Poonam’s promising Cooking-Career)! Similar to Harry, Poonam had a knack for cooking she discovered during her youth. Her Father was an exceptional cook himself who had taken it upon himself to educate Poonam of their culture’s traditional dishes and how to cook them. Whilst in high school, she would take Cooking Classed to broaden her skillset. Also like her Husband, Poonam would also volunteer and refine her skillset for local foundations.
Shortly after the two migrated to Australia, the two would spend the first few years working normal jobs. Poonam spent seven extensive years running a kitchen while working at a nursing home. After cooking for friends and family alike, word would spread of the two’s cooking abilities. Hari would be persuaded by Poonam to take others up on these suggestions and eventually, a family friend of the couple pushed and helped to start the restaurant in 2015. In order to make ends meet and their vision reach fruition, the couple would spend day and night working hard.
Once the Restaurant had been established, it was primarily a take-away shop and occasionally catered to businesses and events. Customers’ countless requests for the hosting of parties with these same services pushed the two to expand into a new location located in Woodville Park. The location hosts 120 guests, an inbuilt sound system and a licensed stocked bar.
However, another problem would arise, as every time the hall got book for a party, regular customers were not able to enjoy their food. In 2022, this issue would be resolved as work commenced on the expansion of shops located next to their hall, to create a compartmentalised restaurants a means of catering to these Customers, and for dining and partying to occur simultaneously, next to each other. This extended dining space would finish early Jan 2023.
As of April 2023, for nearly eight years, Hari and his wife have provided customers with memorable dining experiences, delicious dishes, and impeccable service. Hari’s Curry House is a restaurant of Adelaide worth visiting, and a hallmark of Australian/Indian Dining and Entertainment.
